My Approach
People ask themselves all the time, why would I go to therapy? Do I need therapy? What happens in therapy? And does therapy even work?
My answer is that everyone can benefit from therapy.
Some people need therapy for just a few sessions to figure out a solution to a problem. Some people need help learning how to cope with their trauma responses. Some people experience feeling stuck, blocked, and uninspired.
Therapy is a safe and non-judgmental space where a person can learn how to resolve the most complex of problems (physical, emotional, sexual abuse), to relationships ending (divorce), to wanting to break unhealthy habits (addiction).
Therapy can be short or long-term. Therapy can feel empowering and help a person reach their optimal health. Therapy is like anything else in life; the more attention you give and intention you have on wanting to change your life, the more you will gain. What you put in, is what you get out of the experience.
So yeah, you have to do the work— and I’ll be the first to say, it’s hard, messy, uncomfortable, and sometimes, a long process.
But, isn’t it worth having the rest of your life to feel happy, loved, and motivated?
What Happens in a therapy session?
It all begins with me contacting you and us figuring out if its the right fit. My goal is for my clients to feel comfortable. This is your time and space to be seen, heard, and understood. I strive to uphold all three values in my practice at all times. I want to get to know you at your pace. What makes me unique is that I bring my authentic self to the space.
I am human and so are you. I don’t strive for perfection. I strive for consistency and holding the upmost integrity in my practice.
We are all so different, aren’t we? I hope and wish for you to bring your authentic self to the session. If you’re asking yourself, who even am I? I get it! It’s hard and confusing to know who you are.
Especially, when we are constantly changing and bombarded with downloads from social media. Just be you and bring that to the sessions. Nothing else. Just show up and be honest.
Therapy is tailored to your needs and what you are demonstrating to need for that day. That’s where my skills come in. I can observe areas that are blocked that need focus and attention.
Some sessions can be traditional talk-therapy where you share openly how you feel and what you’re struggling with. Some sessions may be better for EMDR processing. Some sessions may be dedicated to coping skills such as breathwork, meditation, and yoga.
These different forms will all be discussed prior to the session.
